Evermore

A theme park for people like us.

The husband and I finally had the opportunity to visit Evermore Park in Pleasant Grove, Utah! We tried to visit a few years ago - the last time we were in Utah, but the park was closed. In between each of their seasons, they close the park to change out some of the decor and train employees on the new season’s theme.

What is Evermore Park?

In short, it’s a combination of a Renaissance Faire and a live action role play event. There are shows and quests to participate in, vendors for shopping and food stalls.

The park changes it’s theme three times a year, with each theme being related to the season. We were lucky enough to be there for Lore, which is their Halloween theme. It made dressing up feel slightly less ridiculous as grown adults (who were staying in an unrelated hotel and had to ride the elevator in full costume with people who had no idea where we were going or why we were dressed in such a manner).

Quests

We participated in one quest, though we were offered many. Our first offer was to become one of the knights of Lore - but that one didn’t appeal as much as a quest to become a part of the Maker’s Guild. Official members of the Maker’s Guild receive a wooden coin to indicate you are a part of the community, and that was enough for me to know that we needed to quest for that one (especially since Jack and I are both makers).

I won’t go into too much detail about the quest itself - but we had to find and meet people all around the park through a series of clues. Some of those people required additional feats, and some just sent us on to our next clue.

My favorite feat was when we encountered an old crone who asked “if we had to create a magical potion, what magical element would we use and what would it be for?” I thought long and hard about it before answering, “white stag antler for…fertility.” Jack was horrified and the crone was so delighted she cackled. I imagine she doesn’t get many answers like ours.

Needless to say, we succeeded in our quest and become official members of the Maker’s Guild. That opened up the park’s black market to us.

Final Thoughts

We definitely enjoyed ourselves in the park but there were a few things I was disappointed in.

Firstly, it’s extremely difficult coming from someone who participates in full immersion larp. Being in a theme park with most people dressed in normal clothes takes away from the experience - but of course they can’t force their guests to dress up (or can they?).

On the topic of costumes, the staff costumes were a little all over the place as well. The story of Lore is that a fracture opened up and monsters and people from all times and places were released into this world, which makes the lack of cohesive costuming make more sense, but it still wasn’t my favorite. The staff costumes ran the gamut from well done and thought out (true cosplay style) to I bought this on Amazon for $15.

Finally, there was no alcohol. I know that seems silly to be disappointed about, but we were fully expecting there to be an open tavern in which we could sit amongst the raucous tavern folk and have a beer or a mead, especially as this event took place from 6 PM - 11 PM.

All-in-all, I had a great time. I got a lot of compliments on my costume and came home with a few fun trinkets! We saw a few really fun shows and of course I love questing. Tickets are also very reasonably priced, with basic tickets starting around $20 and the upgraded tickets which includes a meal, drink, dessert, train ride, and one special feature of that season’s theme for around $40.

I would recommend checking it out if you’re ever in the Salt Lake City, Utah area.
